The TransWarp GS is an accelerator card for the Apple IIgs with a 65C816 processor running at 7 MHz, increasing the speed of a IIgs to about 2.5 times the stock speed. It automatically installs a Classic Desk Accessory that allows you to test and configure the card. Three speeds may be selected: Normal, Fast, and TransWarp. The TransWarp GS came with an 8K cache card attached, as pictured. Applied Engineering sold an optional upgrade to increase the cache size to 32K.
In addition to Applied Engineering's 32K cache card upgrade a German company, ///SHH Systeme, sold a 32K cache board in several kit configurations from the bare boards to boards populated with everything except the firmware EPROM. Neither of these cards are still being sold.
The Transwarp GS has been successfully upgraded to as high as 16MHz by installing a faster 65C816 processor and oscillator module. Some people have changed the RAM chips on the original 8K cache cards to make make them 32K. See Tony Diaz' TransWarp GS Upgrade pages and Rubywand's CSA2 Accelerators FAQ more information on upgrading the TransWarp GS. There is also a HyperCard GS stack by Scott Gamon that takes you step-by-step through upgrading your TransWarp GS.
