Crown & Anchor
|Crown & Anchor|
This was my 8-bit version of the Crown & Anchor game. It was written using the 64K ProDOS version of Z-Basic from Zedcor, and should run on any 64K Apple II that can run ProDOS.
Crown & Anchor is a simple dice game that was popular with members of the British Navy and fishing fleets. To play, just place a bet on one of the numbers from one to six. Three dice are then rolled. If one die matches your number, you win even money. If two dice match, you win double your bet. Three matches pays 3 to 1. The most you can bet at once is $15,000 (if you have that much). If you can accumulate $30,000 you 'Break the Bank', and win the game. Press the 'Escape' key at any prompt to end the game.
This program was released as Freeware. A version for the IIGS, Crown & Anchor GS, was written right after this one.
Download a ShrinkIt file for use with a real Apple II.
Download a 2mg 140K disk image for use with emulators.
NOTE: ProDOS is not included in these archives. Boot into ProDOS and unshrink or copy all three files into a directory on your hard drive or onto a floppy disk, then run the file CROWN.SYSTEM to start the game. The RUNTIME.OBJ and CROWN.OBJ files included in the above archives must be in the same directory as the CROWN.SYSTEM executable file.
