Apple Computer , Inc. (1977)
The Apple II Parallel Printer Interface Card was one of the first
interface cards sold for the Apple ][. Before this card became
available, the most common way to get printed output from the Apple II
was to hook up a teletype terminal to the game port and use the
teletype driver listed in the "Red Book." The Parallel Printer
Interface Card allowed the Apple ][ to use of a wide variety of
printers. Since there was not really a standard for parallel printer
interfacing at the time, the card has a jumper block (at the bottom
right) which could be rewired to accomodate the handshaking signals
expected by printers of different manufacturers. Instructions for doing
this, as well as making the interface cables for different printers are
included in the manual. The manual also includes a schematic of the
card and a commented firmware listing, with the heading "PRINTER CARD 1 FIRMWARE, WOZ 11/1/77"
