Apple Computer, Inc. (1987)
The Apple IIe Workstation Card adds AppleTalk networking
capabilities to an Apple IIe. This allows the Apple IIe to share
network printers and to access files stored on an AppleShare server.
Booting from the server is also supported. It requires an enhanced IIe
with 128K of RAM. The Apple IIe Workstation card provides two LocalTalk
compatible serial ports through the back panel adapter box pictured
below. Although the ports are designated "LocalTalk" and "Printer",
they can be used as regular serial ports. The AppleShare IIe
Workstation Disk supplied with the card is a bootable ProDOS disk that
allows users to log on & off of the network, choose & name
network printers, and share files with other users. It also includes
the ProDOS system utilities and Fastcopy program.
